New and established brands

The identity’s starting point changes the design task. We consider the direction to establish and the existing recognition to carry forward.

A new identity

Establishing the visual language

We establish what the new brand needs to communicate, then develop the visual forms and rules its intended applications require. The business direction gives the identity a clear brief.

An existing identity

Carrying recognition forward

We review the existing identity against the business’s current position and the places it needs to work. The design can retain established recognition while developing the visual system around those requirements.

Defining the brand brief

We distinguish the business direction already established from the brand questions still requiring a decision. That sets the appropriate research and design scope. Wider questions about the offer, business direction or naming are scoped separately.

Commercial direction

The business’s goals and intended position set what the identity needs to communicate. We establish which parts of the offer and reputation the design needs to carry, alongside the existing recognition it should retain.

We weigh the client’s customer knowledge alongside relevant category evidence to understand how buyers assess the business. We establish which differences customers need to understand and what proof the business can show for them.

Brand scope and investment

Both scopes develop the same core visual identity. We recommend the depth of strategy according to which brand decisions are already established.

Brand Identity

$5,800 AUD plus GST

The business direction is settled. We work from an agreed audience, offer, name and position to develop the identity. We plan four to six weeks, subject to required inputs and timely feedback.

Talk to us
  • Brand Direction Summary

    • We confirm the agreed audience, intended perception and points of difference, then record the job the identity must do.

  • Two visual directions

    • We present two distinct visual directions and the reasoning behind them. You select one, with one consolidated refinement before approval.

  • Functional identity system

    • The selected direction becomes a functional logo suite, colour and typography system. Its supporting visual language is developed around the applications agreed for the project.

  • Two application demonstrations

    • Two named, single-view mock-ups show the identity in its priority settings.

  • Complete identity review and refinement

    • We review the logo, colour, typography, supporting visual system and both demonstrations together. One consolidated revision applies across the developed system.

  • Brand Guidelines and final handover

    • We document the identity’s use, organise the agreed final assets and walk your team through the Brand Guidelines and file library.

Brand Strategy & Identity

$10,200 AUD plus GST

Brand decisions still need to be resolved. We establish the position and brand direction before identity design. We plan six to eight weeks, subject to required inputs and timely feedback.

  • Strategy workshop and research

    • A strategy workshop of up to two hours is supported by deeper business, audience and category research.

  • Brand Strategy Platform

    • We resolve the priority audience, position, intended perception and points of difference against the business’s offer and proof. The Platform records the promise and proof, personality and principles, message priorities, tone principles and their implications for identity design.

  • Platform review and refinement

    • We present the Platform for review, with one consolidated refinement before approval. Its agreed direction becomes the brief for visual design.

  • Two visual directions

    • We present two distinct visual directions and the reasoning behind them. You select one, with one consolidated refinement before approval.

  • Complete identity system and review

    • We develop the functional logo suite, colour, typography and supporting visual system. One consolidated revision covers the complete developed system and its two demonstrations.

  • Two application demonstrations

    • Two named, single-view mock-ups show the identity in its priority settings.

  • Brand Guidelines and final handover

    • Brand Guidelines include the approved strategy and rules for applying the identity. We organise the final assets and walk your team through the guide and library.

Brand guidelines and application

Brand Guidelines preserve the design decisions for the next application. They set out how the identity’s elements work together and give later designers a defined reference for applying them.

A new page, document or campaign has its own content and purpose. Its composition is developed for that task, using the identity’s visual rules. The two agreed mock-ups demonstrate that relationship in specific settings.

We carry those decisions through the final handover. The walkthrough covers correct use of the guide and files, as well as recognising when an application needs further design or production.

Our Process

We go in-depth to understand your goals

// STEP 01

Set the direction

We confirm the business, audience and job the identity needs to do. Brand Identity confirms an established direction; Brand Strategy & Identity develops the Brand Strategy Platform first. The client reviews and approves the direction before design begins.

// STEP 02

Explore two visual directions

The designer presents two distinct directions and the thinking behind each. You choose one to carry forward, with one consolidated refinement before the full identity is developed.

// STEP 03

Develop the selected identity

We build the selected direction into the logo suite, colour, typography, supporting visual system and two agreed application demonstrations. One consolidated revision applies to the developed system.

// STEP 04

Prepare it for use

We organise the final assets and Brand Guidelines, then walk your team through them. After approval and full payment, you own the approved new materials, subject to SOL's reusable underlying materials and third-party licences.

Eight elements of a brand identity, including its visual system, typography, image style, colour and tone of voice.

Design and perception

Customers often encounter the brand before experiencing the business’s work. We design for that early assessment, making real capability and standards visible through the identity.

Typography, colour, imagery and layout form a visual language. We judge their relationship by what it communicates about the business and how it works in its intended applications.

A compact profile mark and a detailed website page place different demands on the identity. We develop the required logo forms and visual rules around those differences, so the brand remains recognisable across its uses.

  1. You'll receive the agreed logo variations, colour and typography specifications, and supporting visual system. We also provide Brand Guidelines and an organised library of final assets, then walk you through their use. Your proposal specifies the formats, whether editable source files are included and any font or stock licences you need.

Across website and marketing

We carry the approved position into website and acquisition work when those services form part of the engagement. Brand decisions continue into how an offer is introduced, how its capability is demonstrated and what customers encounter when they respond.

Guidelines and an organised asset library give the team a practical reference for applying the final identity.

The VALOR Events project brings identity and custom website design together for an established events business. Next Selection carries its identity into a custom website, with logo variations, typography and colour documented in its guide.

Discuss the brand

We begin with the business direction, existing identity and the places the brand needs to work.
